I wanted to brag a little bit on my husband in this post. Ryan is one of those people that is absolutely wonderful at everything he does. He's a biomedical engineer... so that tells you right there that he's a genius. He has a gorgeous voice, and can play the piano like a mad man. He can draw, cook, and paint. He's great at every sport he plays, and he's a really good fisherman. And he also has an eye for decorating! Seriously. He can do everything. It makes me sick. 

So one day (before we got married) I was going over to his parents house for dinner. When I got there, Ryan covered my eyes and told me that he made me something while i was at work! So i walked into his parents garage... and there, right before my eyes... were these two beauties: (keep in mind that he made these out of scraps in his dad's workshop!)

He just whipped this up! With this awesome piece of art, Ryan just cut the wood in to six squares, painted it black and brushed a little gold over it, added the gold detailing, and nailed it all together. I would have never seen a bunch of scrap wood in a shop and thought of this! This next piece of art is my favorite! 

Isn't it awesome?! We love over-sized , modern art.  I was so impressed! These pieces look great in our apartment! And I have to show you this one last thing! Ryan's brother made them for our wedding gift and they are incredible. He got the idea from a lamp that was on our Target registry, and he thought he could make them for cheaper than he could buy them. He ended up spending more money in the long run, but they look awesome! He made two, but I only took a picture of one. 

Can you believe he made that? He cut and stained the wood, picked out the lamp shade material (chinese silk) and even installed the lighting, which you can dim or brighten with just the touch of a button! Let me know what you think! :)
